Queen Elizabeth recently announced that the wife of Prince Charles Duchess Camilla would become queen consort upon his eventual ascension to the throne, and apparently both Prince William and Prince Harry were shocked.

Author and royal expert Christopher Andersen recounts We Weekly that the Queen’s decision to approve Camilla’s marriage Queen consort title is “driving a wedge” in the royal family, and said that as far as Wills and Harry are concerned, “I can tell you right now that the boys have been completely blindsided by this.

“It’s just whether or not they can get over this bad feeling,” Christopher said. “So, of course, the queen [Elizabeth II]Health and those other considerations are there. I don’t think that helped the queen announce that Duchess Camilla would be queen consort and that’s another matter.

According to the author, Prince Charles was pushing “relentlessly” for his wife to get the title, saying: “Charles just wore her out on that too. I also think that since the death of Prince Philip, Charles has redoubled his efforts to make the Queen understand that he too needs [a partner]. If he’s gonna rule, he’s gonna need the support, the kind of support she got from [her husband].”

So why is the Queen Consort title so important? Because she was originally going to be Princess Consort out of respect for Princess Diana. As royal expert Marlene Koenig said City & Country“Camilla was neither popular nor appreciated, [although] this has changed a lot since the wedding as Camilla has taken on a lot of sponsorships and Charles is much happier. Still, [there was] a lot of tension and anger among a certain element of the population – so it was decided that Camilla would be called Duchess of Cornwall, although of course she is the Princess of Wales.

In fact, Charles and Camilla even issued a statement around their wedding saying Camilla planned to ‘use the title HRH The Princess Consort when the Prince of Wales takes the throne’ and then in March 2020 the couple’s reps said The temperature that “the intention is that the Duchess will be known as Princess Consort when the Prince accedes to the throne. It was announced at the time of the wedding and there was absolutely no change.
